The Fast and the Furious LAPD-agent Brian O'Conner gaat undercover in de duistere wereld van de illegale straatraces. Een van de meest beruchte racers van Los Angeles - Dominic Toretto - wordt er immers van verdacht betrokken te zijn bij een reeks gewapende overvallen op vrachtwagens. Met bijzonder veel moeite en een splinternieuwe, uitgebouwde sportwagen slaagt O'Conner erin door te dringen tot diens hechte en selecte vriendengroep. Ondanks het feit dat alle sporen in Toretto's richting wijzen, acht O'Conner het onwaarschijnlijk dat die achter de overvallen zit.
