Barra's Return of the Wild Barra Best presents a natural history series revealing how endangered animals across the UK and Europe are being helped by conservationists. On the slopes of Slieve Gullion in Northern Ireland, Barra discovers how one of our most mysterious native creatures has helped a once endangered animal fight back against an invasive species. Around the world, we're losing more plants and animal species than at any other time in history, with recent research suggesting 25% are now under threat. Yet in the UK and Europe, a glimmer of hope exists as conservationists, biologists and activists undertake work and projects to save species before they disappear for good. In the Republic of Ireland, red kite chicks come under examination following the successful re- introduction of the bird after they were persecuted to extinction in the 1800s. Barra reveals how, while there were once only fifty Arctic foxes left in the snow-covered landscapes of Norway, their numbers are on the rise once more. And on a beach in Barcelona, a loggerhead turtle arriving in the city is given a helping hand by locals. Series Producer: Simon Miller Executive Producer: Mary McKeagney
